Laser & Light-Based Treatments
Northeastern Foot & Ankle is pleased to announce the addition of laser and light-based aesthetic and cosmetic treatments of the lower extremity:
- Fungal toenails

- Hair reduction
- Leg vein treatment
- Pigmented and vascular lesion treatment
These advanced treatments are available through Nomir Medical's Noveon™ System and Palomar's StarLux™ 500 Laser and Pulsed Light System. The treatments are safe, comfortable and very effective. All skin types can be treated, from the fairest to the darkest complexions.
During treatments, filtered light is directed onto the skin and absorbed by the melanin in hair or pigmented lesions, and hemoglobin in the blood in visible vessels. For hair reduction, the light effectively disables the hair follicles. For sun spots or age spots, the cells containing the unwanted pigment are targeted. In the case of vessels, the light is absorbed by the hemoglobin in the veins, causing them to shrink and fade from view. For fungal toenails, the light creates photoinactivation of fungi eliminating fungal infections.

Scar Reduction (Fractional Non-Ablative Skin Resurfacing)

Hair Reduction
If you live with unwanted hair, you've probably tried some of the typical solutions, such as shaving, waxing, and electrolysis. If so, you've also found that:
- Shaving is a daily nuisance.
- Waxing is painful and only a short-term solution.
- Electrolysis is effective, but since it only treats one hair follicle at a time, it's not practical for large areas and is extremely time-consuming.
The LuxR™ Handpiece of Palomar's Pulsed Light System offers a lasting solution for unwanted hair:
- Long term: Concentrated pulses of light loosen the hair and disable the cells responsible for new hair growth.
